Learning Objectives
By the end of this 2-day Basics of Organizational GHG Accounting course, participants will be able to:
- Explain climate change fundamentals and the role of organizational GHG accounting in addressing climate risks and opportunities.
- Understand key GHG accounting standards and frameworks, including the GHG Protocol, ISO 14064, and their alignment with ESG and regulatory requirements.
- Define organizational and operational boundaries for GHG inventories using equity share and control approaches.
- Identify and classify Scope 1, Scope 2, and Scope 3 emissions relevant to their organization.
- Collect, validate, and manage activity data required for accurate GHG emissions calculations.
- Apply basic GHG calculation methodologies, including emission factors, global warming potentials (GWPs), and data quality considerations.
- Recognize common challenges, errors, and uncertainties in GHG accounting and how to address them.
- Develop a basic organizational GHG inventory using structured templates and practical examples.
